Laura graduated from The American Academy of Art and Columbia College and began her career in the vibrant Chicago art scene of the 80’s and 90’s. Laura's inspiration comes from a wide range of influences. Society, politics, and pop culture dominate. She observes, collects, and recycles. Laura works primarily in acrylic paint but branches out into watercolor, drawing and mixed media. She is a versatile, emotive, comedic and covertly political artist who doesn’t shy away from color, taboo, or intelligent thought.
Laura has been the Executive Director of 317 since it's inception in 2019.She is also the owner and primary teacher at SmARTy Pants Rockford Kid’s Art Studio. In addition, Laura does murals, teaches classes at museums, WomanSpace and libraries and sits on the Board of the River District Association and committees for Rockford Area Arts Council and the Rockford Art Museum.
